I have
windows xp Home Edition SP2. My computer specs are: AMD Athlon T3200 Processor (2.2 ghz), 2 gb RAM, Nvidia 7000 Series
video card with 512 mb onbard RAM/AGP interface.
hard drive is EIDE/ATA interface 164 GB. About a week ago my
hard drive started making clicking noises and freezing up. I determined that the hard was failing via a bad head. So I purchased a new replacement hard drive. My intention was to ghost the old
hard drive onto the new using Accronis. My PC is old as you can tell and the original
hard drive was only a 164 gb. The new one is a 320. The old
hard drive was holding up surprisingly well, the clicking and freezing had stopped. Then without a specific cause, I try to boot the PC and it freezes at the load screen. I imagine this may be a driver issue so I try to start in Safe Mode so I can to a scandisk or chkdsk. However, it only loads in safe mode to a certain degree then freezes there too. I never actually make it into Windows. The bios and CMOS detect the drive and from the dos c:\ I can see whats on the drive, I just can't get there. My bundle software is too old to load into my new hard drive. I say this because after I completely installed it, I was going through the set up process (setting up time, location, name of pc etc) and it gets so far then just hangs forever. So I can't even bit the bullet and start from scratch. So basically, I can't seem to repair to old
hard drive so I can get the stuff I need from it to run the new one. The new one came with a driver but it is having problems detecting the Bios settings on the motherboard. Does anyone have any insight or suggestions as to how I can complete this process?
