I am trying to find a graphics card that will play well with my PC. Its ancient by PC standards: AMD Athlon 2.2ghz processor (400 FSB) 500 Watt power supply AGP 8x interface 2 GB DDR RAM
windows xp Professional SP3 Current Graphics: GeForce 6600 GS with 256 mb of on-board RAM (12 Pixel pipelines, 128 bit memory; core clock 400 mhz; memory clock: 533 mhz) I use a DVI interface. This card works fine I play a massive memory hound of a game called the Sims 2 and I have all EP's and SP's so the game is huge so the play is a bit choppy. And the fact that I can't add any more system memory, I am looking for a graphics card that can pick up the slack. I am looking at a EVGA Geforce 7600 GT Superclocked Graphics Card. These are extremely difficult to find but I did find a couple. 512 mb RAM; Memory: 512 MB, 128 bit DDR2, 800 MHz (effective), 12.16 GB/s Memory Bandwidth; Performance: 580 MHz GPU, 12 Pixel Pipelines, 400 MHz RAMDAC I appear to surpass the system requirements except I am a little concerned about the power requirements which are: Minimum of a 350 Watt power supply. (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 18 Amp Amps.) Minimum 400 Watt for SLI mode system. (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amp Amps.) The wattage is fine but I don't know how to tell if my power supply meets these other requirements re: amps and voltage. I couldn't find these requirements for my current card so I don't know if its the same or not. Anyone a PSU guru?
