Vista and XP computers 'see' each ogther but cannot connect Hi there,I have a Laptop with Vista home and a Desktop with XP SP3, which are both connected to a network using a Linksys router. The Laptop is connects wirelessly and the desktop is connected by wire. Both computers connect to the internet ok, however, although I have shared folders on each computer, they cannot access these shared folders. On the laptop, the \\Desktop machine is displayed in Network and Sharing, but when I try to access it, I receive an error 0x80070035.When I try to access the laptop, \\Allan-laptop, from the desktop, I also receive and error:' Allan-laptop is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator (sic)....'Now when Sharing the Public folders on the laptop, I have found that it resets itself!... But when I set it, this isn't the cause of the issue. When I set it to Public Folder Sharing as 'on' the laptop, the files are still not visible on the XP machine. When I return later to the laptop - the Public Folder Sharing has set itself to 'Off' - strange... is this a UAC issue? - or should I Run anything as 'Admin'?The Laptop computer is shown on the XP computer under 'My Network Places/ Microsoft Windows Network/Harmon(my workgroup)/Allan-laptop'... but I cannot access it!Frustrating thing is it was working.. the only thing that I have installed is Skype.. could that be it?Anyone have any ideas? I am reasonably competent with setting up networks and have set up several - but this is strange! |
