I have an xp pro machine and a 98se machine and I am trying to get them networked together. The Xp machine has a program on it that I need to run on both machines, but I cant get them to see each other. I have tried to static them to 192.168.1.101 on xp and 192.168.1.102 on 98. I am using a 5 port linksys switch and 2 straight through cables. I have tried everything that I can think of, but the 98 machine just wont talk. When I try to contact th 98 machine from xp, I see the lights on the switch showing activity, but then it says that "192.168.1.102 could not be found to check the spelling and try again". But when I try to contact the xp machine from 98, I dont get any activity on the switch lights, and get the same error. I have even tried a cross-over cable and got the same results. I read in one place to run the network setup wizard on the xp machine and make the network setup disk to run on 98, and it installed some stuff when I ran it, but still no go. Please help.:4-dontkno
