Default Router Issues

I used to run my XP machine through a netgear modem (DM111P) without any problems, it mostly autodetected everything etc. However i bought an xbox360 and so as to run live i also got a netgear router (WGR614 v7). I set it up all correctly (or so i believe) and it works, however when i run firefox (or IE) and open a second tabbed webpage the internet completely locks up. that is if i try to have 2 webpages loading at the same time it stops working and i must restart both the modem and router to get them working again. When this happens the xbox also loses connection to the internet, but certain programs on the PC can still access the net (instant messagers mostly). for the life of me i havn't been able to work out the problem. i have the latest drivers and firmware for everything.
