I have a network where many people need to view files on our server, I need to limit everyone to only be able to view the specific files & folders but I also need to have the option to edit the files from a remote computer preferably by typing a password. I tried playing with Windows setting but got no where as well as tried many 3rd party programs, but none seem to fit my needs. Basically what I’m doing now is I have the files on ZIP disks and have them password protected. This way I can read them and if I need to edit something I have to unprotect the disk. But as I access the files multiple times a day the ZIP disks get degraded and are always becoming corrupt. As well I’m limited to only being able to view the files at one work station at a time. Moving them to our server would be the ideal scenario if I can find a way to have them password protected but also read-only from other computers. Thank in advance.
