Default Configuring a PC for NAS

Im back folks. Im looking for any help I can get in setting up a NAS on my home network. I have a spare PC that I would like to utilise. I understand that once freeNAS is installed there should be little else to configure on the PC, however, I need like a checklist or something for setting up my router (hardware firewall) to route properly without it being open to the outside world. What I am basically asking is does NAS screw up when DHCP is being used? Will I be able to access it from outside the network? Thanks in advance folks, your help is always appreciated.
