Default CPU temps rise 15C when USB hdd attached!!?

I cannot understand this.. Whenever I connect and power on either of my 2 external USB hard disks, I notice the CPU temp quickly rises by around 15 C, while CPU usage is still idle. When the USB HDD is detached/turned off the temp returns to normal. My external drives are both powered straight from mains.Very puzzling and worrying now its coming to summer -dont want to fry my CPU!Any suggestions to what's going on..?Cheers
