Default I cant get old screen to work with new PC

I have just bought a very low spec cheapo PC because I will only bought it for very limited use.I have connected everything up but cannot get an output from the monitor. It is a TFT monitor (prob 4-5 years old). I have connected it to the colour coded, blue, connection (as well as a power source) as it was on the previous PC.The monitor appears to be working as when I disconnect it from the PC it says 'no signal' but when it is connected it goes into the sleep mode (with power button lit orange instead of green) (The PC is definately on)I fear it might be something to do with graphic cards maybe. I have know idea what I am talking about as you can probably tell so PLEASE HELP!!!!Thanks in advanceSam(I also fear I may have screwed up windows vista because I was unable to complete the setup process and removed the power source - any advice would be great)
