Hard Drives problem Thank you reading my thread. The current situation is that my sister's Dell Dimension 9200 computer has broken down (i.e. can't turn on at all) due to the the memory modules not being detected *and* due to "C000021a (Fatal System error) The Windows Logon Process System Process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005"I haven't a idea how to solve the problems (or what they are) so my sister asked me to help her back-up the data from her two hard drives. Both of them are identical: "SAMSUNG SP2504C 250GB"However I recall, when her computer was working, that her "C drive" had around 300GB capacity and the "D drive" had around 150 GB" ... and was thinking if that was due to partitioning?Anyway, I have a Dell Dimension 5000 with a working Maxtor 160GB/150 SATA HDD. 1. I took the *1st* Samsung HDD and installed it in my Dell Di5000 with my Maxtor. BIOS detected it but didn't show up in My Computer.2. Therefore, I took the *2nd* Samsung HDD and install it with my Maxtor. BIOS detected it. It showed up in My Computer however it said the *2nd* Samsung HDD wasn't formatted. But I know that there are files in that HDD. 3. Next, I removed my Maxtor and made the *2nd* Samsung HDD the main one with the *1st* Samsung HDD as the backup one.BIOS detected both HDD. However it would boot and had a message:"Loading PBR for descriptor 2... done""Bad PBR" 4. Finally, I swapped the Samsung HDD over so the *1st* was the main one and the *2nd* was the backup one. Again, BIOS detected both but stated: "No boot drive available"After all that I came here for help and advice as I haven't a clue what to do next or what the current situation with the Samsung HDDs are. Are they broken? I am still able to access the data on Both Samsung HDDs? Any help or advice would be much much appreciated. The main concern is that all the data are safe as the files on both HDD are important.Thank you very much.Neko.P.S - My computer knowledge is below below par. I don't know any jargon or anything so you would probably need to talk to me in newbie computer language. Thank you. |
