Hi, I have a Western Digital 500GB MyBook which was working fine until I connected it with a computer which was infected by a virus. The problem is that now whenever I try to attach a data cable to the drive (USB or Firewire), it makes a clicking sound and the computer never properly detects the drive. I get the bubble at the bottom saying the drive is connected and ready for use but it never shows up in My Computer. I did a lot of research on this including reading this: http://www.fixya.com/support/t11284-..._unusual_click http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc....i=&p_topview=1 My drive does not make the clicking sound when the power supply is connected but only when the data cable is connected indicating that the drive has not failed. I also tried using the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic Tool but even the Quick Test fails at the "Running Cable Test" phase with the message "Cable Test::Read diagnostics sector error!". I'm pretty sure a few sectors on the drive are corrupted or there's a virus on there (as suggested by the WD knowledge base). Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of the potential virus or how I could access the data on the drive. Formatting it is the very last option as there's valuable data on there. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
