Default Copying a Harddrive From IDE to SATA?

Howdy Everyone. I just bought a SATA 3GB/s WD harddrive, to replace my old ATA WD. However, I dont really feel like going through the trouble of reinstalling everything on my new hard drive, as trying to get my settings on my computer as they are was hard enough to do once, and quite frankly I'm too lazy to do it again. I was wondering, is it possible to copy EVERYTHING- I mean so that the only difference between my ATA and my Serial ATA drive is that the latter is just a much faster alternative? Or does the difference in ATA make them incompatible? Thanks in advance for the relply, Chris
