Don’t know if I am trying for the impossible here, but I want to set up an external
hard drive to do and maintain a complete back up of my computer (application programs and data files). From what I read, it seems that to include the operating system in the back-up causes lots of problems – so if we have to leave that out – fine – after all, if the recovery process requires a reload of Windows etc well fine – that shouldn’t be too hard. The killer is ensuring that all the data, emails, email addresses, browser settings and my application programs (including all my idiosyncratic program settings) are recoverable with minimum grief!! and on restore - to put everything back exactly where it was!I have a Maxtor OneTouch Mini 111, but the software that came with that gives me nothing but trouble and can’t be trusted :upset: (although I think the
hard drive itself is OK). I will also soon have a “clean” HDD in an external case.Does anyone have any suggestions on how to set up this kind of back up and which can be “incrementally” backed up at the end of each day. It would be even better if it could be set up to do an incremental back up on shut down (like a tape drive program we used to use in my office years ago)Any ideas / suggestions :4-dontkno
