Hi everyone - thanks for looking!I am selling my PC and I want to reformat both my SATA
hard drives and install windows on the faster one and have the slower one empty but formatted with NTFS for use as a storage drive. Please see my computer spec for details of the sizes and speeds of the drives. The smaller faster one is a WD Raptor 36GB, and the larger slower one is a WD Caviar 250GB.Up until now the I've had XP on the slower drive which the computer boots from, with the raptor acting as a slave which shows as drive D: in XP. I tried using the XP cd to reformat both drives and reinstall XP on the Raptor. I originally did this from within windows, before the setup process began properly. The first problem was that it wouldn't let me reformat the large
hard drive because there were files it needed or something for reinstalling XP.So I went ahead and reformatted the Raptor and installed windows on that. All good. Now the computer is still booting from the large
hard drive and says:Please select the operating system to startWindows XP Home EditionWindows XP Home EditionThe new copy on the Raptor is the first on the list, and the old copy on the large
hard drive is the second. Both copies run fine, the fresh copy on the Raptor, and the old copy on the large hard drive, but the computer still boots using large hard drive. In both versions, the Caviar drive is local disk C: and the Raptor is local disk D:I eventually want to have the Raptor running as the primary
hard drive and the large
hard drive running as a slave - reformatted with NTFS and empty. The real problem is though, when I swap the primary and secondry drives round in the BIOS, so that the Raptor is the primary, the computer comes up with the message:Reboot and select proper boot deviceor insert boot media in selected boot device and press a keySo in order to boot into windows I need to have the Caviar set as the primary drive, and the Raptor as the secondary. What on earth could be going on?Also btw, the large
hard drive uses a SATA power connector, and the Raptor uses the standard 4-pin one.Any help much appreciated! Thanks muchly!
